The Girl with Three Legs

The publisher provided this book for review purposes.

Female genital mutilation is something that is so inconceivable for me since I grew up here in America. Soraya makes it incredibly real in her book The girl with three legs. I found myself emotionally entranced by her descriptions of life with her family. It was easy to understand how she could love her mother after doing such a thing since she was able to describe how her mother was forced into the same type of relationship. I found myself cheering and crying with her throughout the book. She adds a personal experience to an impersonal topic. I truly loved reading her story.

Hi! I'm Angela Crigger Harrison

Hey guys!

I've only recently started reviewing books on a regular basis. I'm a teacher who just happens to love to read. It amazes me that someone would want my opinion on books, but here they are anyway.

I've always said that the best gift (birthday or otherwise) was a book chosen from the heart by the person I loved. Hopefully these reviews will help others understand how I feel about books I read. Good or bad, I hope to add to your book knowledge.

Love,
Angela

The Crocheted Prayer Shawl Companion

This book was provided by the publisher for review purposes.

As an avid crocheter, I am always on the look out for patterns and projects that have practical uses. Prayer Shawls are wanted and needed by so many people, that these have become a favorite project of mine.

This book, Thee Crocheted Prayer Shawl Companion: 37 Patterns to Embrace, Inspire, and Celebrate Life by Janet Bristow is more than just a collection of patterns with pretty pictures. It is also a collection of essays and a look at the Prayer Shawl movement.

The contributions are thought provoking and uplifting. They make this particular crafting book more of a "Chicken Soup" for the crocheter.

The patterns are varied in degree of difficulty and make beautiful shawls. This is one that I will be adding to my crafting library
